Walk With The Lions - A Conservation walk organised by Kenya Wildlife Conservation Forum (KWCF)
Date: Saturday 29th September 2012
Venue: Athi Kapiti Wild Life corridor
Where will you be on 29th September 2012? The Athi- Kapiti Corridor, Kitengela is the place to be. Kenya Wildlife Conservation Forum (KWCF) is organizing a walk along the Athi- Kapiti corridor whose aim is to inform the residents in the area the importance of wildlife and encourage them
to live in harmony with these animals.
This is the first event of its kind and it will help to significantly change the perception and reactions of residents of this area and other Kenyans towards wildlife. The Athi-Kapiti grasslands are a potential conflict zone between humans and wildlife and if no mitigation measures are put in place the conflicts will persist due to increased settlement and development in the area.
During a reconnaissance that was carried out in the month of July 2012 in preparation for this walk the locals recommended that, the animals be retained in the park by fencing its southern side as an attempt to address the human-wildlife conflicts. They also recommended that if development is a problem to the movement of animals, title deeds should not be issued to those interested in settling in the area.
